Guest Talk at Artisan’s Asylum, Boston
I had the best time meeting some wonderful people at Artisan’s Asylum, Boston, where I presented The Dollhouse Project. Artisans Asylum is a non-profit community space for making – a 52,000 sqft fabrication facility that provides nearly 1200 members with access to 160 personal studios, 15 shared workshops, and open spaces for collaboration. Little R accompanied me too in The Travelling Home, on her first business trip! Scroll to see some pictures from the talk!
Many thanks to Michael Mittelman and Artisan’s Asylum for having us!
Guest Talk at Rhode Island Handicraft Club
The Rhode Island Handicraft Club, founded in 1904, invited Nambiar and Little R for a guest lecture to talk about Nambiar’s miniature practice, and present Little R and her Travelling Home to the members of the club. (Little R also got to take a peek at some of the Victorian dollhouses at the club!) Scroll to see some pictures from their visit!
Many thanks to the Handicraft Club, Karen Weavill and Hope Alswang Joyce for making this event possible.
Open House @ Studio Slip
On the morning of 3rd April 2021, Studio Slip and Nambiar hosted a miniature Open House in the gardens of Studio Slip, inviting Slip’s various clients and collaborators to come visit and tour the dollhouse in person.
Nambiar gave guided tours of the dollhouse to all of Slip’s guests while the Slip team hosted a mini-making workshop that allowed guests to create their own miniature artwork, cushions and books to take home with them. Guests who participated in the workshop also took tiny little certificates back home with them.

Read about the ‘Dollhousewarming’ Nambiar hosted in her backyard
The Dollhousewarming
On Sunday, the 21st of March 2021, Little R and Nambiar inaugurated the newly constructed dollhouse with an intimate ‘Dollhousewarming’. Miniature-themed invitations, designed by Nambiar, were sent out to friends, colleagues and collaborators of the project, many of whom pulled out magnifying glasses of their own to read their tiny invitations and share them on Instagram.
The ‘dollhousewarming’ was hosted in Nambiar’s own backyard, entertaining her neighbours for brunch and friends and colleagues for tea. Guests were welcomed with tiny platters of miniature food put together by Ben Samson, one of Nambiar’s culinarily-gifted friends. The platters were made up of tiny mimosas, quail eggs, mini chiffon cakes, mini croissants and tuna-&-oyster canapés created specially for the occasion.
Guests got guided tours of the dollhouse, peeking into its windows, checking out Little R’s mini art collection and flipping through tiny books from her library. Several guests even brought tiny housewarming gifts for her! Read Little R’s blog post about all the gifts she received for her new home.
At the end of the evening, Nambiar saw her guests off with mini party favours containing miniature sweet boxes – a fairly standard giveaway at a South Indian housewarming – providing a somewhat traditional end to an otherwise unconventional housewarming.
